Greg Anderson

Obituary of Greg W. Anderson

Gregory “Greg” Wallace Anderson, 58 of St. Paul, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on February 15, 2023.  His family and friends are deeply saddened by the void left in the wake of Greg’s sudden death.

Greg was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on May 14, 1964, the oldest son of Rosie (Kuntz) Anderson and Terry Anderson. He graduated from Century High School in 1982, the University of North Dakota (UND) with a bachelor’s degree in 1987, and then received his Master of Arts from the University of St. Thomas in 1992.  He lived in Minneapolis, MN for most of his adult life, and later in St. Paul. Greg worked in the St. Paul School District teaching Spanish immersion classes to children and adults before moving into a role at the district’s administrative office. Greg understood many languages and he liked to text his friends in Spanish, French and German.

Greg loved to seek out family history.  He would often spend his spare time researching possible relatives and would reach out to connect with anyone who could have been a part of his family tree.  He once figured out that his nephew’s hockey coach was a distant relative.

Greg was an avid gardener.  He could tell you the name of most plants and their relation to other species just by looking at them. His memory lives on in many gardens in the St. Paul area through the plants he frequently shared with friends and family.

Greg was very creative and was fascinated by the possibility of trying and learning new things, in the garden, in his artwork, in classes, and in life.   He was intelligent, artistic, thoughtful, loving and kind.  Greg loved life, loved the color orange, loved plants, loved to shower his friends and family with fun wacky gifts, loved history, loved to travel, loved art and culture, loved to laugh and joke.  He went out of his way to take care of those around him with things that they needed and things that he thought they would like.

He deeply loved his family and friends, especially his nephews.  Greg was the best uncle any nephew could have asked for.  He was always there when they needed him, he was always looking out for their best interests, and he listened and cared about what they had to say.

Greg is survived by his father, Terry Anderson; his sisters, Stephanie Anderson, and Kelly Reifsteck (Brad), his brother, Steve Anderson (Katie) and his six nephews, Devin, Justin and Jaden Reifsteck and Sawyer, Mason, and Ryder Anderson, as well as beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.  Greg is preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Anderson, his grandparents and many more loving aunts and uncles.  His family likes to think they are all together now, laughing, having a good time, and playing cards.

Family and friends are deeply saddened by Greg’s sudden and unexpected death. There are no words to express how much he will be missed. His family is thankful for the outpouring of love and support, showing just how much he meant to others and the impact he made on all our lives. We will love and miss you forever, Greg.   Private services will be held later in the year.  Condolences can be sent to Spielman Mortuary at 344 University Avenue W. in St. Paul, MN 55103
