Obituary of Flora Catherine Maddox

Flora C. Maddox, age 73, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Paul. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, May 16 at the Spielman Mortuary, with the Reverend Carl Walker, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (11 AM-Noon) Private Interment Flora Maddox was born to WillieMae McLain and Edward Stone in Durham, North Carolina in 1938. She was the youngest of nine children. She resided in North Carolina until 1947 when she and her family moved to New York. This is where she met her husband, Edward Maddox and gave birth to her only son, Berris Stone. She studied cosmetology and worked in a shop; her specialty was doing nails. In 1976, she and her family moved to Minnesota, which is where she became a caretaker for the Rice and Marion Apartments for 10 years. Flora then moved on to becoming a Foster Mother to five children over the course of 15 years. In her later years, she rested at home and enjoyed life. Flora is survived by her son, Berris Stone; brothers and sisters, Charles McLaughlin, Lula Mae McLaughlin, Swindell McNeal, Eddie Stone, Ella Mae Stone Bias, Julius Stone, Jesse Stone, and Alphonso Stone; grandchildren and foster children, Brandon Charles, Yale Williams, Carneada Milton, Shaila Milton, Alfred J. Turner, Renee Tyler, Gregory Tyler, Ladeen, Mark, Brittany, Sara, Joe, Mark, Teeter, Tino, Kenyada, Anthony, Shavnice, and Mercedes; a host of nieces and nephews, including Ulyse Bias, George Bias, Patricia Bias, Yvonne Bias and Teresa Clemons.
