Obituary of Lieutenant Columbus Jackson

Lieutenant Columbus Jackson, Jr., age 86, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Maplewood Care Center. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 10 at the Spielman Mortuary with the Reverend Darryl Spence and the Reverend Devar Kemp, officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM.) Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Russell, Emmitt Williams, Ron Stevenson, Dennis Robinson, Mark Robinson, and Tony Robinson. Lieutenant Columbus Jackson, Jr. was born to Minnie Porter and Lieutenant Jackson, Sr. on August 28, 1925 in Waco Ward 5, McLennan, Texas. "Jackie Boy" as he was so affectionately called, loved his family, and loved playing cards and dominos. He is well known for his saying: "if you ain't quit then go on and play." Lieutenant leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Morris Jackson; four daughters: Gwendolyn Jackson, Sandra (Bobby) Walker, Debra (Rob) Morris, all of Peoria, IL, and Mary Katherine Washington of Bastrop, LA. Two sisters: Minnie Mae Johnson of Maplewood, MN and Viola (Bill) Lewis of Waco, TX; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lieutenant was preceded in death by his father, Lieutenant Jackson, Sr.; mother, Minnie Porter; step-mother, Alice Jackson; daughter, Rita Jackson; grandson Derris C. "Pete" Walker; siser, Aslee Jackson; brother, Alvin Jackson; and two nephews, Shellie and Larry Robinson.
