Colleen Scroggins-Wesley

Obituary of Colleen Renea Scroggins-Wesley

Colleen Renea Scroggins-Wesley was born on June 25, 1958 to Geraldine and Clarence Scroggins. She was their youngest child of 12. Colleen was called home at the age of 62 on March 27, 2021, after fighting a long battle with lung cancer. Colleen grew up in St. Paul. She went to Maxfield Elementary, Como Jr High and St. Paul Central High School. She graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1976. Colleen was very popular in high school and was very involved in school activities. She was class president for all 3 years at Central. She was a cheerleader, was named Snow Daze queen in her senior year and gave the graduation speech at her graduation. She was also on the Student Council Board. She always said she loved high school because she had so much fun. After she graduated from high school, she went to St. Paul Technical College and graduated in December, 1977. She started her career with the State of MN, Department of Labor and Industry on January 9, 1978 as a Clerk typist 1. Colleen received several promotions while working for the State. When she retired, she was working for the Code Enforcement Division as a Management Analyst 4. She worked for the State for 40 years and retired in October, 2017. Colleen loved her job and the people she worked with. She always referred to them as her 2nd family. Colleen loved her family and all her friends dearly. She had a big heart and a smile that could light up a room. She was always the life of the party, loved to cook and have cook outs for her family and friends. Colleen also loved going to the casino with her sister, nieces and friends when she could. Colleen was diagnosed with lung cancer in April, 2017 (she had never smoked a day in her life). She fought so hard to beat it. Even when she was down she would always have that smile on her face. She could make you laugh no matter what the situation was. Everyone use to tell her that she missed her calling and should have been a comedian. Colleen never let cancer define who she was. Colleen was preceded in death by her mother and father, Geraldine and Clarence Scroggins; her first husband Floyd Wesley; sisters Tina and Eunice Scroggins, Elizabeth Page, Marilyn Steele; nieces Victoria, Christiana Steele, Marilyn Barber; and nephews Anthony Nunnally and Anthony Martin II. She is survived by her husband Michael Ashby; daughter Karina Wesley; sisters Kathleen Galloway, Paula Scroggins, Marsha Scroggins and Carol Durand; brothers Steven Scroggins, Robert (Bobby) Scroggins and Terry Scroggins; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
