Demetrei Carlos DeMornea formerly known as Melvin Wendell Cotton, age 51, of Long Beach, CA, passed away February 19, 2021. He was born July 13, 1969 in Indianola, MS, to Cora Mae Cotton and Tommie Lee Cotton. In 1975 when Demetria was a young boy, his family relocated to Saint Paul, MN. Demetrei graduated from Johnson Sr. High School in 1986. He was known for being a loving, caring, uplifting man. He was always the comedian and had an infectious laugh. He loved his family and enjoyed being a father.
Demetrei is preceded in death by his father, Tommie Cotton; grandfather, Robert Poe; grandmother, Pearlie Poe; sister, Sophia; aunt, Bernice Glover; nephew, Chester Dixon Jr. Demetrei is survived by his wife, Gayle DeMornea; his son, Lavantae Cotton; his daughter, Shakia DeMornea; his son, Demetrei DeMornea Jr; his mother, Cora Cotton; five brothers, Jerry Poe (Sherri Smith-Poe), Johnny Poe, Chester Dixon (Charlene Dixon), Tony Cotton, Terry Cotton; sister, Cassandra Cotton; also a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. Thursday April 15th at the Spielman Mortuary Chapel, 344 W. University Ave., St. Paul. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service (12:00 - 1:00 p.m.).
