Obituary of James McCorvey

James “Jimmy” McCorvey, age 75, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on March 24th, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roberta & James McCorvey; brother, Dannie McCorvey. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley McCorvey; three daughters, Maria McCorvey, Shawnna McCorvey, Fannie McCorvey; one son, David McCorvey; eight grandchildren, Jasmine Stevenson, Kaitiana Stevenson, Bailey Houston, Meylani McCorvey, I-am Tafari, Fiyah Tafari, Warrior Tafari, Elijah Branson; four great-grandchildren. He was born November 24th, 1945 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and grew up in College Station, Texas. Jimmy was a Vietnam Veteran, he attended Anoka Tech for mechanical engineering and he worked for Center Point Energy for 40 years. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, working on his yard, and being with his family. He was a faithful and active church member, giving whatever services needed in the church. He served as the head Usher, head Deacon, and head trustee at Free At Last Church of God in Christ, and United Church of God in Christ. Jimmy was a kind person who loved people and was a man of direct action. He was a fantastic role model, a devoted family man, and a shining example of the greatest human being you could ever encounter. Jimmy will be sorely missed… James McCorvey’s celebration of life will be April 8th from 5-8pm for public viewing at United C.O.G.I.C. Church, 277 W. Lafayette Frontage Rd in St. Paul 55107. Funeral services will be Friday, April 9th from 10:30-12:30pm at United C.O.G.I.C. Church. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
