Obituary of Linnie D. Howard-Nolen

Linnie D. Howard Nolen ( May 7, 1931 - June 22, 2020) 89 years young. Our phenomenal Linnie was a God fearing, spirited daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend who was called home to Heaven to be with God on June 22nd. Linnie was born in Sunflower County, MS. Coming out of Mississippi to Minnesota when opportunities for African Americans were not plentiful. Linnie made her way by working for many years at the VA. She also was employed in the 60’s at the Ammunition Plant in Arden Hills. Linnie held various other positions, including working for the Saint Paul School system as a Teaching Assistant, which after a number of years she retired. Linnie loved the Lord, she was a women of strong faith and a long time member at Mount Olivet Baptist Church where she joined the senior choir later in life. She really enjoyed singing and traveling with the seniors. Linnie was a fashionista, she loved to dress and wear fabulous hats with dark shades and earrings. Linnie was often referred to as Miss Hollywood at the nursing facility where she resided which was also called Mount Olivet. She had a wonderful smile and her quick wit will be missed. If you listen, you can still hear her say “cool or whatever and did you bring me some pork skins and peppermint candy”. Which she got because her Mother loved peppermint candy. We will remember a women who lived life living it exactly the way she wanted. Linnie is survived by her daughter, Linnie; granddaughter, Alicia; brothers, W.C. (Dorothy) Scarver and Azell (Martha) Scarver; grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of life will be held a later date.
